What is Sand Boarding?
Sand boarding is an outdoor sport performed on sand dunes, and has been practiced since the 1940s. Sand boarding is a combination of surfing, snow and skateboarding. The popularity of sand boarding has grown enormously in the last ten years. Sand boarding offers a large amount of clubs and parks throughout the world. The sport also holds contests for people wanting to compete in the sport.
Early History of sand boarding
While the discovery of sand boarding has never been documented, photos of people sand boarding were discovered during the World War II era. From the 1940s until the 1950s, sand boarding was very much an unknown activity. There is rumor that ancient Egyptians rode down sand dunes with wood and pottery. The Middle East has been named as the birth region for sand boarding. Egypt is home to dunes as high as 500 feet and angle slopes of 70 degrees and the Namib Desert is claimed to have the oldest deserts with some of the largest dunes in the world. These become the top destinations for extreme sand boarding and competitions.
